Jamaat-e-Islami has no connection with Al Qaeda or any militant groups; Acting Secretary General urges people to be aware of new conspiracy against Bangladesh
Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued a statement on 16th February, 2014 expressing grave concern over publishing and telecasting of news in different newspaper, online news portal and mass media centering the so called Video message of Al Qaeda leader. His full statement is given below:
“We are deeply concerned about the news centering a video message of the so called Al Qaeda group’s incumbent chief Ayman al Zawahiri which has asked the Muslim of Bangladesh to launch protest against those vested quarters who had declared war against Islam. The countrymen are deeply worried and tensed apprehending this campaign as a new conspiracy against the independence, sovereignty, Islam and patriotic citizen of the country. Bangladesh is free from any types of extremism, militancy and terrorism.
We do not have any knowledge even whether the religious section and the mainstream Islamic parties of Bangladesh have any tie with Al Qaeda. A few news media have published bogus report citing the relation between Jamaat-e-Islami and Al Qaeda, which is totally false and baseless. We want to assert that, no question rose at all from the side of Jamaat-e-Islami or Islami Chhatrashibir of having relationship with Al Qaeda. We sincerely and truly hate any types of militancy.
Jamaat and Chhatrashibir have no connection with any types of terror acts, militancy or unsystematic activities. Jamaat-e-Islami has been continuing its all activities to uphold its political ideology democratically and peacefully. The political vision and activities of Jamaat-e-Islami are visible. The section which actually intends to create confusion, are bringing these concocted issues of militancy and terrorism in forth in a bid to suppress the Islamist people of Bangladesh. We apprehend that, the video message of so called Al Qaeda leader has been brought as a part of the conspiracy to disconnect Bangladesh from rest parts of the world as well as to initiate a new malicious plot against the religious communities of Bangladesh.
We are calling upon the patriotic people of this country to be aware and conscious about the conspiracies in the name of tackling militancy, terrorism and extremism.”
