(Update) Photo & Video: Police raided Islami Chhatri Sangstha office
Update: The wife of Abdul Qader Mollah arrested.
From Dhaka over phone: Mrs Sanwat Jahan (55), wife of Asst. Sec General Abdul Qader Mollah is among the 20 Islami Chatri Sanghtha activists arrested during a police raid in the central office of Islami Chhatri Sangstha at Moghbazar on Monday evening.
Jamaat’s Assistant Secretary General Abdul Quader Mollah is now facing trial on charge of committing crimes against humanity.
A police squad from Ramna Thana along with Detective branch personals enter the organization office around 4 pm and ransacked the belongings of the office and arrested some members of the organization.
Officer incharge of Ramna police has comfirmed the raid and arrest around 6 pm. Regarding the detention of 21 female leaders of Jamaat and Chhatri Sangstha, police said Sanowar Jahan is a central working committee member of Jamaat, while the rest are students of different educational institutions in the city.
Acting on a tip off, law enforcers raided the Chhatri Sangstha office and recovered a huge number of ‘Jihadi’ books and leaflets, said Shible Noman, assistant commissioner (Ramna) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Shamsunnahar Nizami, secretary of Islami Chhatri Sangstha, in another statement, blasted the government for detaining its female leaders and activists and demanded their immediate release.
A tense situation is prevailing in the surrounding area as police is harassing almost all the women wearing hijab during the raid.
